Ice Procedures & Allocation

The goal of NVMHA’s ice allocation process is to ensure available ice is used efficiently, fairly and in the best interests of all teams within the association.

Please review the procedures below carefully. Coaches and managers are responsible for understanding and following these procedures throughout the season.

Ice Allocation

Teams will receive their regular practice and game ice allocations at the beginning of the season.

While every effort is made to provide teams with a consistent schedule, exact days, times and locations may vary depending on NVMHA’s annual ice allocation and overall scheduling requirements.

Ice Allocation Priorities

When ice needs to be allocated or reallocated, priority will generally be given in the following order:

  1. League Games & Conflict Game Resolution
Ice required to meet league scheduling obligations or resolve league game conflicts receives the highest priority.
  2. Circumstances Outside a Team’s Control
Scheduling issues caused by circumstances outside the team’s control may also receive priority when replacement ice is required.
  3. Regular Team Programming
Scheduled games, practices, development sessions and other regular NVMHA programming.
  4. Additional Ice Requests
Requests for additional practices or exhibition games will be considered after higher-priority scheduling requirements have been addressed.
Allocation decisions may also take into consideration division, game-length requirements, appropriate start/end times, rink availability and other scheduling restrictions.
